Context: After a tumultuous period of political crisis in Ecuador, within the global context of the Cold War, the country underwent significant transformations that redefined the character of the State and social relations in the countryside. Objective: To examine the agrarian reforms implemented in Ecuador since the 1960s. Methodology: Systematic review with a qualitative approach and descriptive design. A bibliographic search was carried out in the Scopus, Redalyc, Springer, Taylor & Francis, and Scielo databases, using the Boolean operators AND and OR. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied, and the selection process was documented using the PRISMA flow diagram. Results: 11 studies were included. The agrarian transformations initiated in the 1960s were marked by reforms that, although aimed at redistributing land and modernizing agriculture, failed to profoundly modify rural socioeconomic structures. The 1964 agrarian reform allowed the peasantry some access to land but did not significantly alter the concentration of ownership nor break with traditional power relations. Conclusion: The agrarian reforms in Ecuador achieved partial advances but did not structurally transform agriculture. Overcoming obstacles such as land concentration, institutional weakness, and the predominance of agro-industrial interests is required, articulating agroecology with comprehensive public policies, in order to achieve equity and sustainable rural development.
